2012 FLL Challenge Announced!

The New challenge for the 2012 season has been announced!!! Can FIRST® LEGO® League teams improve the quality of life for seniors by helping them continue to be independent, engaged, and connected in their communities? In the 2012 SENIOR SOLUTION Challenge, over 200,000 children ages 9 to16* from more than 60 countries will explore the topic of aging and how it may affect a person’s ability to maintain his or her lifestyle – solving issues like getting around, keeping in touch, or staying fit. Teams will research obstacles and then suggest ways to improve the quality of life for the seniors affected. Teams will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot to solve a set of missions on an obstacle course. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL’s signature set of Core Values. What an exciting topic for our students. We are very excited about getting involved in our community as we prepare for the upcoming season!!!!

JET – Students Involved with Technology Conference

On February 18th the SIT Conference Committee will host the first annual SIT Conference at Glenview Middle School in East Moline. The theme is ” ALL Hands on Tech”. The attendees will be exploring technology through exciting presentations ranging from web design, wireless networking, internet safety and ehtics, digital movies, solar and green technologies, pocket PC’s, robotic technologies and much more. This is a one day conference for students from 3rd – 12th grades and is by students for students! Yes, the presenters are students and the attendees are students. This is a great opportunity for our young people and they are excited, as we are excited for them, to demonstrate what they have learned through the program! We are extremely proud of our entire team who work so hard!!!!

Build a Bridge Competition 2012

The Jordan Engineering Team took four teams to the anual Build a Bridge competition at the Putnam Musuem on Saturday February 11th. This is an anual event. Our teams did extremely well and our students worked very well together with just a few fingers and lips being glued togehter in the process! In all it was a good learning experience and a fun day for everyone! Everyone walked away with a better understanding on the construction and engineering of bridges and I am sure next time they are in a car on a bridge they will be thinking about the structure….they may even ask you to drive a little faster! We will be posting pictures so check back!!!!

Due to no school this Friday 10/7 practice will be moved to Wednesday 10/5 immediately after school.

Tek-Air Systems, Inc. has agreed to sponsor JET!

Tek-Air Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of critical environment airflow control products, has agreed to sponsor the JET teams.  They will be providing shirts for the students and coaches for the 2011 Food Factor season.  A large thank you very much to Tek-Air Systems, Inc. from JET and Jordan Catholic School.  Without support from companies like yours our team would not be possible.

Practice Cancelled on 9/30/2011

Practice will be cancelled since the Jordan Middle School will be shut down tomorrow. With the unexpected cancelations the past few weeks we run the risk of quickly falling behind.  To mitigate that the 9/30 practice will be rescheduled for Monday 10/3 immediately after school.  Friday’s practice for 10/7 will continue as scheduled.
